I bought Rockband since my last post. I know it isn’t relevent, but I love that game so much.

FIRST WEEK BACK. To sum things up into one neat, little package: Mr P Murray is the best English teacher in the whole Western world. Not only does he keep me awake, … he keeps me awake.

In the first week, we had to decide what book we wanted to do for our ISU. I chose The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, which is one hell of a good book. That’s right. I’m already done. It was only 90 pages long, but the reading was spectacular. But less on that.

In the first 5 classes we discussed the outline for the year. We are reading three books on top of our ISU book: Macbeth, Animal Farm and Brave New World. We will also be studying poetry and nonfiction.

I quite enjoy the fact that Mr Murray’s class is very technologically oriented. I myself am a big geek, so this suits me.

Accountability agreement; as it stands personally for me, William Justin Aitchison.

Firstly, what I hope to accomplish this semester:

I would like to pass this course and the exam, respectively, with marks in excess or equal to 76%;

I would like to learn how to better analyze poetry; and

I would like to learn and apply the skills I’ve learned with regards to writing university level essays.

Secondly, what I will contribute to the class this semester:

I will try to contribute humor to the classroom environment; and

I will try to contribute my help and reflections on the course using my blog.

Thirdly, the certain things I will be held responsible for:

I will be accountable for handing in assignments on time;

I will be accountable for being on time to/being prepared for class; and

I will be responsible for maintaining my marks at an acceptable level and if needed, boost them to an acceptable level.

Fourthly, the supports I will rely on to help me achieve my accountabilities:

I will rely on the support of Mr Murray to teach me to the best of his ability and to aid me if I so request;

I will rely on the support of Brent Lamothe, Stuart Gendron and Colton Bissonnette to supply me with notes and whatnot if I miss a day or if I am troubled with any material in class; and

I will rely on the support of my parents to keep me motivated/to motivate me if I begin to slack off.

Fifthly, how I will know what success looks like:

when my report card comes, and it shows that I’ve received a 76% (or higher) on the exam and in the course;

when I don’t get any marks taken off for lateness on my assignments; and

when I succeed.

Lastly, the consequences (good and bad) of my success:

I will be rewarded with knowledge, and armed with that knowledge, I will be able to succeed in grade 12 university English as well as in university;

If I fail to hand in assignments on time, I expect marks to be taken off as per Mr Murray’s protocol on late work; and

If my supports do not follow through, then I may become confused, or become unmotivated, and start to slack off, causing a drop in my marks, for which I would have to work more to bring them back up.
